Project Summary

Cyber-Unite is a large cross-border cybersecurity research initiative bringing together four universities — the University of Limerick, Queen’s University Belfast, Munster Technological University, and University College Cork — together with Gas Networks Ireland to improve the cybersecurity and resilience of critical infrastructure across the island of Ireland. The project responds to the increasing use of interconnected Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies in critical infrastructure, which create new vulnerabilities to cyberattacks, ransomware, and state-sponsored threats. Cyber-Unite aims to develop adaptive and resilient cybersecurity solutions using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Zero Trust security, and Cyber-Digital Twin technologies to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats in real time. Beyond technical research, Cyber-Unite also focuses on workforce development, innovation, policy collaboration, and public engagement to strengthen cybersecurity capability and resilience across the island of Ireland.

Our Role

Nimbus plays a central role in Cyber-Unite through its expertise in cybersecurity research, innovation, education, and public engagement. Nimbus contributes to key research areas including Zero Trust architectures, intrusion detection, trust management for Cyber-Physical Systems, and Agentic AI-based threat detection and autonomous response systems designed to identify, analyse, and mitigate cyber threats affecting critical infrastructure in real time.
