About

The Nimbus Research Centre is a leading centre for applied research and innovation, driving advances in digitalisation, smart technologies, and sustainable solutions through close collaboration with industry.

Based on MTU’s Cork campus, Nimbus works with enterprises, public bodies, and research partners to develop and deploy real-world solutions in areas such as the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0/5.0, Energy Systems, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, cyber-physical infrastructure and Virtual Worlds. Nimbus follows an integrated model of research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. Through interdisciplinary expertise, testbeds infrastructure, and industry-focused projects, the centre plays a key role in advancing MTU’s mission in research, regional impact, and technology-driven innovation.

Nimbus research is inherently interdisciplinary, with a team of 45 researchers we cover a broad spectrum of expertise with the ability to deliver user-centred end-to-end solutions from embedded sensors all the way up to user interactions.

The centre has built lasting internal links with academic departments and other MTU research centres and groups. This brings additional expertise to complex research projects. In addition, Nimbus has strong external collaborative research
links both nationally and across Europe whose research complements the centres activities.
