Application Area
Climate change and reducing CO2 emissions is one of the primary drivers for improved energy efficiency at a global level. The European Union has established a series of ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the coming decades (Regulation (EU) 2021/1119):
These targets form part of the broader strategy to combat climate change and transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy. Smart energy management plays a crucial role in achieving the EU’s emissions reduction targets by optimising energy efficiency, integrating renewable energy sources, and reducing overall consumption. Through advanced technologies like AI-driven demand response, real-time monitoring, and decentralised energy grids, smart energy systems enhance efficiency across industries, buildings, and transport. They enable better forecasting of energy needs, minimise waste, and support the transition to a low-carbon economy by facilitating the use of renewables and energy storage. By leveraging digitalization and automation, smart energy management helps meet the EU’s climate goals while ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply
Nimbus is focused on driving the twin transition (digital & green) towards a sustainable and digitally empowered future. Our research focuses on integrating advanced digital technologies with environmental intelligence. This includes developing energy-efficient computing and communication systems, leveraging digital twins for real-time monitoring and optimisation of resource use, and applying AI and data analytics to accelerate decarbonisation across various sectors. By aligning digital innovation with climate goals, we aim to create solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.
