Intersections: Art, Tech & Understanding

Nimbus has built a strong partnership with the Crawford Art and Design, Cork School of Music and Communications and Media departments within MTU to conduct research in the following areas: 

• Interactive and Immersive Media: Exploring VR/AR and mixed-reality environments for performance, installation, and storytelling. 

• Haptic and Sensorial Interfaces: Leveraging our expertise in embedded systems we are designing new forms of human-computer interaction that involve touch, sound, movement, and multi-sensory feedback in creative expression. 

• Networked and Participatory Art: Creating works that live online, engage communities, or evolve based on real-time input from users or environments

• Co-Creation with diverse stakeholders: Nimbus emphasises human-centred design and co-creation, involving citizens, industry, and public bodies in designing solutions that are not just technically effective but socially relevant. This includes smart energy platforms, community apps, and digital tools for public engagement. 

• Sustainability and Smart Living: Nimbus contributes to building more sustainable societies through innovations in smart buildings, factories of the future and climate-aware systems. This aligns with societal goals like reducing carbon footprints, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting circular economies. 

• STEM Awareness/EPE:  Nimbus supports STEM awareness & digital upskilling, particularly in areas like IoT, data science and cybersecurity, helping prepare both youth and adults for a tech-driven future.
